question 7
Compare our OTS to our Preliminary Task, have we improved?
|
For our preliminary task we used the basic shots and camera angles. We learnt that when filming a conversation between two people, you should always try to follow the 180 degree rule, however we did not include this in our OTS. As a viewer, it's much more engaging to watch when the camera creates a perspective of being stood right in front of the conversation, rather than circling it and swapping sides constantly. We did not consider the use of lighting in the preliminary task and would be better if we had done.

Actors |
In our OTS we include a range of camera techniques and angles, such as a high angle to set the scene of who is in power and who isn't. we use editing techniques such as the flicking off pictures on the compute, and the fading of each shots, some of the shots also pan from one side to another. Our OTS has background music which out preliminary task doesn't. This improves a sequence because it adds tension. Another effect that improves the sequence is the sound effects added, this creates an eery atmosphere for the OTS. We have also added titles in our OTS which we didn't do it in our Preliminary task.
|
for our preliminary task we used 2 inexperienced actors, however we have improved from this by using a total of 3 actors in out OTS, which knew what they were doing. This is partly due to the time that we got to plan for out OTS which was more than we had for our preliminary task. We also chose the actors based on looks, Elle who plays the main victim was chosen due to her blonde hair and Callum who plays the murderer was chosen because of his dark hair and height.
location and lighting
we chose the location wisely when filming the OTS as it was important because all features helped create the right sense and set the right tone for the OTS. We decided to go for a dark changing room and a bedroom. We choose to add lighting in some places of the changing room just so some parts were more focused on than others. However for our preliminary task we didn't chose the location based on what we were going. We also never considered lighting, and as there was a lot of natural lighting it made the sequence look of bad quality.
MUSIC
We didn't add any music to our preliminary task, however we did add music to out OTS, as without it no tension would build.
editing
For the preliminary task we edited it so it fit together, however on our OTS we edited the colour of the picture so it darker and we added sound effects on top of some of sequence. This has made it more effective as it goes with the theme of the sequence and it adds to the OTS. We also added titles in, as we wanted it to look as professional as it can.
planning
We spent a duration planning the OTS before we filmed it as we needed to structure everything and fid out what we needed and who we needed. This helped us to make the sequence as best as it could've been, through the use of making a storyboard and writing a script and doing a risk assessment. We did no planning for our preliminary task, which may be why the location wasn't suited and it was short on dialog.
